How Surgery for Meniscus Tear Can Restore Knee Function?

surgery for meniscus tear

When you get a surgery for meniscus tear, it involves repairing of your torn meniscus or trimming out the torn portion (meniscectomy). This is performed using keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery. Once your damaged meniscus is replaced, after weeks of physiotherapy and regular exercise you will be able to regain your mobility.

If your meniscal tear is degenerative in nature and there is some pre-existing arthritis within your joint, a steroid injection can be considered. This can help you to settle the pain associated with the inflamed tissue lining the knee joint. Performing surgery for degenerative meniscus tear in most cases, will not help in the long-term.
